Our statute
We are in the process of writing a statute for the Energy Community. You can view the current draft here:
The statute is the governing document of the community. It lays out how we will operate, and everyone who wants to join needs to sign it.
Below, we explain in simple language what the important parts of the statute say:
- Articles 1 & 2 define the name, location, and legal form of the community.
- Article 3 sets out the various things the Energy Community will engage in, particularly electricity generation from renewable sources (RES) and distribution, as well as things we might do, such as battery storage and electric car charging. It also states our intentions to raise awareness of sustainability and contribute beyond the community to the wider good of the island.
- Article 5 describes the co-operative share of 100 EUR that all members pay to join, and the initial capital of the community.
- Articles 6-12 list the founding members, and describe what it means to be a member: how to join, how to leave, and what rights, responsibilities and liabilities members have. For example, all members receive their share of the energy generated, according to their initial investment. They have a single vote in the General Assembly which governs the community, and have the right to know what happens in meetings, examine the community's finances, and so on.
- Articles 13-17 detail the way in which the community governs itself: through a General Assembly of all members, headed by a three-person Board of Directors, who are elected from the members.
- Article 18 specifies that all profits from the energy community will be re-invested into the community itself.
